ART HELPS, in collaboration with renowned hand-lettering artist Stefan Kunz, recently organized an inspiring multi-day creative workshop in Sri Lanka. This event brought together ten women from Compassion’s Mother-Child Program, offering them a unique opportunity to reflect on their hopes and aspirations for their children’s futures.

Throughout the workshop, these courageous mothers engaged in meaningful discussions about the challenges they face and explored how they could actively contribute to shaping a brighter future for their children. Guided by the artistic expertise of Swiss artist Stefan Kunz, the participants collaboratively created a powerful mural centered around the word “Hope.” This mural serves as a visual reminder that, despite the hardships they endure, there is always hope and the possibility of a brighter future for both themselves and their children.

For many of these women, extreme poverty is a daily reality that strips away any sense of hope. Pregnant women and mothers with young children often face overwhelming struggles, lacking the financial means to access even basic necessities such as prenatal counseling or medical care. This is where Compassion’s Mother-Child Program plays a vital role. The program provides comprehensive support, including essential healthcare and guidance, to ensure that these women and their children have a strong start in life.

Through initiatives like this creative workshop, ART HELPS and Stefan Kunz are not only providing these women with artistic skills but also empowering them to envision and work towards a better future. The mural they created is more than just an artwork; it is a symbol of resilience, hope, and the unwavering belief that brighter days lie ahead.

Stefan Kunz is an internationally renowned artist known for his hand-lettering and 2D animations. His work has been commissioned by prominent brands like Porsche, Nespresso, Coca-Cola, and many others. In addition to his artistic projects, he teaches thousands of people the art of animation and paints murals around the world, known as “Walls of Hope.” You can learn more about his work at www.stefankunz.com.

ART HELPS is an initiative by creatives and artists that supports people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds in a unique way: through art. The various imaginative projects provide a platform where individuals can discover, explore, and express their artistic potential. ART HELPS also gives them a voice. By exhibiting and selling their creations, their hopes and fears are brought to the public’s attention, which in turn funds new creative projects. Learn more at www.arthelps.de.

FAQ

The early years are crucial for a child’s overall development: they learn essential motor, language, and social skills, which impact their future life. For example, inadequate nutrition during pregnancy or breastfeeding can affect the development of the unborn child.

Expectant mothers need to be well-prepared for childbirth. Support from trained midwives, doctors, and social workers can ensure this preparation.

The Mother-Child Program supports mothers and their young children holistically. They receive services such as preventive check-ups or vaccinations, additional food, and education on important topics like nutrition, hygiene, and signs or symptoms of pregnancy complications. Through home visits, regular meetings, and training at child centers, families are supported by trained Compassion staff. Additionally, they receive assistance with income generation, learning skills such as soap-making or how to start a small business.

Together with over 2,300 local partner churches in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, we have established the Mother-Child Program to specifically support expectant mothers in poverty. Over 31,000 mothers and young children are already participating. Your donation enables families to join this extensive program. Through its holistic approach, the program prepares mothers well for childbirth and the time afterward, increasing the chances of a good start in life. It also encourages and strengthens mothers and families.

The focus of the Mother-Child Program is on mothers and their babies until the child reaches the age of three. At that point, they transition into the regular one-to-one sponsorship program.

No, it is not possible. With your donation, you support the local partners to offer the Mother-Child Program.
